Indonesia, Japan to discuss investments

Aug. 14 -- Jakarta will host a high-level delegation from Japan for talks over how to boost investment in Indonesia, the Jakarta Post reported Saturday.

The meeting will take place while the country is preparing for the second-round presidential election in September.

The outcome of the investment discussions will be in the form of a recommendation, or a list of actions to be carried out by relevant ministries or agencies, the newspaper said.

Investment, especially by foreign entities, has been lagging in Indonesia as compared with neighboring countries, mostly due to the adverse business climate here.

Indonesia July Vehicle Sales Dn 10% On Mo to 38,481 Units

Aug 14--Sales of new vehicles in Indonesia jumped 10% in July to 38,481 from 42,769 in June, the Indonesian car assemblers' association, Gaikindo, said Friday.

The association didn't provide an explanation for the fall in vehicle sales in the domestic market, but analysts said consumers may have delayed their plan to buy a car as they await the release of new models in September.

Gaikindo said market leader Astra International sold 15,236 new vehicles in the local market in July, down 21% from 19,317 in June.

Singapore's Jardine Cycle & Carriage Ltd. (C07.SG) owns a 41.9% stake in Astra.
